For sale is a Guild model Starfire III, made in USA circa 2000 - in need of a neck reset.
I’d wondered if a partial reset had been attempted - it’s clearly leaning forward slightly owing to the glue at the heel end loosening and as such the angle is just slightly too ‘far forward’, meaning an optimal action can’t be achieved.
As such, I’m selling this as ‘for repair’ - despite being in quite clean condition save for the lacquer lift around said neck joint. It’s a shame as all the parts are original and it’s otherwise nice - maybe a good donor guitar if anything, or a project for someone looking to undertake an (ambitious) neck reset on a guild.
Anyway, here are the good bits:
I believe this was Guild's first run of American-made Starfire models following a decline in production since the glory days of the 1960s.
A fantastic rerun of the 60s classic, Guild put some effort into recreating their iconic design in house in the USA (Westerly, Rhode Island).
This one is unique for featuring a mahogany (yes, mahogany) top - quite unusual and the first I've seen on a guitar of this style. The result is some beautiful, tight-grained figuring beneath a gorgeous (factory nitro) Cherry Red finish.
Further desirable features include a factory-fitted 'Guildsby' (Guild-badged, Bigsby-produced) vibrato tailpiece with floating bridge, Grover tuners and a beautiful dark rosewood fingerboard.
I believe they actually commissioned Seymour Duncan to recreate their iconic HB-1 humbucker - there is some varying information out there and not the best record keeping, but either way they are factory-original and sound fantastic.
It comes paired with its original Guild-branded hard case as pictured.
