For sale is a played-in but break-free Gibson Les Paul Studio model, dating from 2000.

From the off, I'll say this period of Les Paul Studio models provide excellent value for money when compared with contemporary models. For one, during this period Gibson were still using solid mahogany (rather than swamp ash), as they would with a 'standard' Les Paul. Further, these models featured Trapezoid inlays, rather than dots. Atop of this, Gibson did some runs around the time of Studio models featuring Gold hardware - and this is one of them.

They were further loaded with dual (gold-covered) Gibson 490R (neck) and 498T (bridge) Humbuckers, which had been introduced in the late 80s as a 'modern' humbucker - a little hotter than a standard PAF.

This example is well-played, though I am somewhat hampered by the fact that Black guitars are difficult to photograph sympathetically. There are multiple signs of playing wear, marks and dings to the body and neck - though it has no breaks, repairs or issues. It is a gloss finish, so looks really nice to the eye - obviously any marks are somewhat exaggerated by my harsh(ish) studio lighting.

Given the spec combo, the guitar actually has the appearance of an unbound Les Paul Custom - which I rather like.

Middle weight - not a back-breaker (as the wood selection was quite good, during this period). Frets in good condition with plenty of life left in them, neck is straight with truss rod working and the action is comfortable.

The modern (inferior, to my mind) iteration of this model costs around the £1300 mark - I'm asking for a fraction of that.

It comes with a solid, aftermarket hard case.

A fantastic Les Paul with great specs in a handsome colour way.
