For sale is a beautiful Guild model Starfire II dating from 1997, made in Westerly Rhode Island (USA).
One of Guild's first runs of reissuing their iconic Starfire II since the 1970s.
Being a one of the earliest from this run, this model is incredibly fortunately equipped with factory Seymour Duncan SD1 pickups. Seymour Duncan were charged with producing these pickups in the very earliest runs, reproducing the look of the original Guild HB-1 humbucker cosmetically - though these were essentially a SH-1 '59 Humbucker in Guild-style housing. As such, it sounds phenomenal and far superior to the later, lesser-favoured Fender-produced pickups.
This one also features all-Mahogany construction, with the (factory nitro) finish being 'Transparent Red', which really shows off the beautiful wood grain. Personally, I've found this also helps somewhat with feedback reduction - these guitars are hollow-bodied but do not feed back as readily as similar guitars such as Casinos/330s, etc.
Further lovely appointments include a bound rosewood fingerboard upon a mahogany neck, factory Grover tuners, a Guild big G tailpiece and a rosewood bridge.
Neck angle is superb/unflinching, frets in excellent condition and action is very comfortably low.
Very clean condition, the only changes I can see are an additional strap button to the neck heel (acceptable in my opinion) and the removed having been removed, opening upon the beautiful mahogany top.
Very clean and seldom used, some minor marks commensurate with nearly 30 years of gentle play and some lacquer checking to the primary strap button area.
Comes with a period (though non-original) sturdy croc-style shop case, which I've seen a few British-supplied Guilds come with.
A great USA reissue of a Guild classic with some absolutely golden specs.
