For sale as incredible and seldom-seen Japanese made jumbo acoustic, the Takamine EN-20. Dating from around 1990, this is a very well-built guitar with top end parts (solid wood) and great attention to detail (look at the sloped fingerboard end, staggered saddle, tort. tuners etc).

I believe these were only produced for a brief period around the mid-80s to the 90s, the EN-20 being the (non-cutaway) electrified version of the N-20 and as such features a nice Takamine preamp/onboard electronics system.

The top is solid Cedar if I'm not mistaken and the fingerboard is of course made of real, dark rosewood. The neck and headstock are also made of beautiful solid mahogany. It does scream 'attention to detail' - I'd point to the factory staggered saddle which allows for superior intonation.

This was a player's workhorse guitar and I believe the original owner had it from new, or at least for 30 years. As such it bears the marks of a life very well lived, with plenty of marks but nothing in the way of carelessness, nothing in the way of neck breaks. There is a repaired split to the top as pictured, but again being a workhorse guitar I feel this is forgivable. The top's finish has near all worn away from decades of play - they were finished thinly to start with and this has been played most days for the past 3 decades.

The setup is nice, frets are good and the board bears the marks of a very well-played guitar. The tuners are really nice, I almost want to say they're tortoiseshell or some resin/celluloid equivalent.

The neck angle is great and the guitar has a great action, playing really nicely. The jumbo body and proper solid top contribute to a beautiful acoustic sound. Spec-wise it's very similar in quality to a contemporary model J-200, a testament to the unparalleled workmanship present in Japanese factories during the period.

It comes with a Hiscox 'Liteflite' case also from around the same period as pictured, which has been paired with the guitar for a long time.

A very well-built Japanese guitar with some highly desirable specs and a huge sound. I think it'd make an incredible gigging guitar for someone!
