For sale is a beautiful Tokai TTE55L-BB (Black) 'Breezysound' model left handed electric guitar, made in Japan circa 1985 (Tokai Gakki, Japan).
A fantastic, original and rare Tokai model dating from the peak of their 'Golden' years at the height of the notorious 'Lawsuit' period of Japanese guitar production. If I'm not mistaken, it was Tokai's incredibly faithful production of 60s electric guitars that spurred Fender to initiate their JV/Japanese production line, so to compete against Tokai's interpretation of their very own designs.
This model is listed as the TTE55L-BB in the 1985 Tokai catalogue, with the 'BB' suffix signifying a factory Black finish and the 'L' portion referring to the guitar's left-handed configuration. If I'm not mistaken, this was their sole left-handed 'Tele' model available at the time.
It is in short, a very faithful reproduction of an early 60s Tele, featuring a beautiful wide/flat maple neck paired with a dark rosewood fingerboard. Further period features include Kluson-style button tuners, factory 'L' series stamped serial (which I believe was a deliberate nod to 'L Series' 63-65 Fenders) and an F-styled truss rod adjuster to the base of the neck.
This guitar is all original, including the notable TEB stamped pickups, which were the 80s incarnation of the MK II - one of Tokai's more desirable pickups.
A clean and well looked after example, with not an awful lot in the way of notable wear. There are select dings to the body and neck which I have tried to capture in the photographs. Frets in good condition with plenty of life left in them. A little wear to the back of the neck as pictured, though nothing undue. There is minor lacquer checking to common stress areas as is experienced with 99% of guitars this age, though is free of any structural issues and is playing wonderfully.
No case, though it will be well packed for shipping.
An 80s classic Japanese guitar from Tokai's golden age, rarely found in a left handed configuration.
