Vox 'Custom Bass', made in Japan circa 1981 at the notorious Matsumoku factory.
One of Vox's more decadent basses, marking a departure from their 60s designs. The 'Custom Bass' features a beautiful multi-wood 'sandwich' body, typical of Japanese producers of the time. The result is greatly enhanced sustain, with the neck and body forming one total piece.
In excellent used condition, played but carefully stored in between. As such, there are only minimal marks, dings and minor signs of play wear that one would expect from a now 40+ year old bass.
This bass is largely original, save for the switch tip which went missing a long time ago and the bridge pickup has been changed to a Jazz Bass pickup (accounting for the black cover - it should be cream).
Atop of this, the fretboard is constructed of a beautiful lacquered maple, with the frets in excellent condition/minor playing wear.
The sound of this bass is phenomenal, which I find to be the case with all Matsumoku-made guitars that I've had the pleasure of playing. While the design is novel, the pickups include both a P Bass style set and a J Bass-styled bridge pickup, both of which can be blended in/out via the toggle switch.
A fantastic bass constructed of excellent materials with the unparalleled build quality experienced by Matsumoku-made guitars.
