For sale is a beautiful Guild model S300D, made in USA dating to 1978.
An absolutely wonderful guitar, highly underrated with some golden specs.
They made a few variations of this model, one with single coils, one with Guild humbuckers and one with factory-fitted Dimarzio pickups. This, is the latter.
To me, this is Guild's attempt at a period Les Paul/SG/Firebird competitor. Solid mahogany body and neck, ebony fingerboard (yes, really), factory Guild-stamped (likely Schaller) tuners and as above, factory-fitted Dimarzios (PAF neck, Super Distortion lead as standard). And to top it off, it also has a factory-fitted phase switch - which engages solely in the middle position.
Most of these guitars were produced in Natural (at least, most I've seen) with a small few being made in Cherry Red - and this is one such example.
Excellent condition and all original - these were normally heavy giggers but thankfully, this one has survived very well with no breaks, all original parts and just the odd minor occasional ding / very slight buckle rash.
It even comes with its original factory tag (pictured). One knob is missing its silver top, though given all of the above - I'll forgive it.
Comes with what I believe to be a dealer/shop-supplied, heavy duty hard case (said shop being Axe Music, Colchester - it even retains its original shop sticker to the back of the headstock).
Sounds incredible, with a classic 59 PAF sound on the neck and an excellent driven sound in the lead position.
Somewhat Goldilocks specs and that's ignoring the factory Dimarzios - try and find a set of matched '78 PAF/Super Distortions out in the wild, alone.
Guild-branded pots (a nice touch) all date to '78, serial puts production at '78-'79. Back plate has matching serial sticker to inner (I think I was the first person to ever open it up).
If Gibson made these, they'd be 5 times the price and highly collectable. I'll be sad to say goodbye to this one!
