A beautiful and all-original, top of the line, set neck Framus model S360, dating from 1973 (made in West Germany)
With the advent of the 70s, European builders aimed to capture the growing electric guitar market by taking influence from their successful American contemporaries.
The Framus S360, clearly taking inspiration from a contemporary LP Custom, featured a set neck, Natural Mahogany finish and a real Ebony fretboard with ornate inlays.
This was somewhat of a departure for Framus, whose electric guitar models had largely been bolt-on necked in the decade prior.
It is also naturally slimmer than an LP Custom, meaning that it is super lightweight and doesn't suffer from the excessive weight of similar period guitars. In the same vain as Gibson, they used a 'pancake' body, comprising of two timbers sandwiched together.
The guitar is unmistakably German in its design, featuring a zero fret, what I believe to be very early (original) Schaller tuners (made in West Germany) and asymmetric pickup covers. The pickups are not a true 'humbucker' - rather they are exceptional Bill Lawrence-designed pickups which sound and feel more like a fat P90. He would later go on to work for Gibson and of course designed the legendary 'Bill Lawrence PAF'. The pickup cavities will fit a full-sized humbucker/PAF (I checked) - should you wish to change the pickups.
Condition is excellent for its age - free of breaks, repairs or serious damage and it is 100% original.
The neck is rather nice - perfectly middling, neither to fat nor slim and constructed of Framus' signature highly-grained domestic woods.
Dated to 1973, owing to '73' very clearly written in the neck pickup cavity (pictured). This makes this one of the first models ever produced.
An entirely original top-end vintage Framus with some desirable appointments, lightweight and incredibly playable.
