For sale is a beautiful and rare Silvertone model 1457 dating from 1964, complete with its original case with built in amp.

Silvertone guitars were produced by Kay/Harmony in Chicago USA, badged 'Silvertone' for sale at Sears - this is the same factory that produced Jimmy Page's iconic Danelectro 3021 (note the same 'Lipstick' pickups).

There were two versions of this model: the 1448 which was a single pickup/short scale and the 1457 which conversely was a dual pickup/full scale guitar. This is the latter, which was more expensive at the time and to my mind has far greater utility, owing to the second pickup and full scale length. They were offered as a full solution for guitar players, with the paired case featuring a small inbuilt (fully-functional) 1w amp. This was recently serviced by Coopersonic (Nottingham) who replaced the speaker and attended to the electronics. It is now working as it should and sounds pretty cool (you will need a step-down USA transformer to use it).

This guitar came out of America where it had spent its life up until I purchased it. The guitar itself looks 100% original as far as I can tell and is playing nicely with a great sound owing to the 2x factory 'Lipstick' pickups (really nice in the middle position).

The guitar itself is in good condition, as with most the finish on the back of the neck has worn with play over the decades. It is however free of breaks, the frets are good and the neck is straight. The 'tape' bound body has held nicely and hasn't succumb to the usual deterioration that these guitars are prone to. The finish is entirely original - it is what they deemed a Red burst with a subtle sparkle texture - very cool.

The amp/case is fully-functional as above, albeit with some holes and a lot of wear, which I've tried to picture best as possible. It however closes, with the latches all working. These were literally made out of chipboard/compressed cardboard, so don't always hold up brilliantly.

A full-size, dual-pickup and full-scale American classic, complete with its original amp in case. Some people are asking upward of £1500 for complete examples of these sets, so I'm hoping the asking price will appeal to those looking for a vintage USA bargain.
