Hofner 'Senator' model electric hollow body bass guitar, dating from 1964.

No clear serial or label on this one, however the specs (e.g., the volume/tone configuration, headstock logo etc) puts the year of manufacture as 1964.

These are fantastic basses, introduced just at the right time to power many a British band through the 60s guitar craze. They feature near identical electronic components to McCartney's 'Beatle' bass, instead paired with a large and fully hollow cutaway body. To my ear, this gives them a far larger sound. They also have great utility when played acoustically with a very projective, fully hollow body.

Incredibly lightweight, owing to its hollow body construction. The back features a gorgeous flamed maple 2-piece - a testament to some of the beautiful timbers Hofner had access to at the time.

This bass is without its original pickguard (as the majority are), opening up the beautiful top and of course the charming factory Shaded Sunburst finish. The bridge appears vintage, though non-standard. Apart from that, it's all original. There are some minor marks to the finish, natural lacquer checking and signs of playing wear - though no breaks or repairs, etc.

Great neck angle, no evidence of previous neck work (often the case with 60s Hofners). Plays nicely with a comfortable action up the board, truss rod is fully-functional and the neck is straight. The 'Hofner' headstock badge has lost the top portion of the 'f' letter - though it is original.

A classic 60s Hofner bass with great utility for studio, home and live use.
