A beautiful vintage full-bodied archtop electric guitar from premier German guitar builders, Framus - a model 5/59 'Sorella'.
This model dates from 1963 as per the inner label, is incredibly clean and plays fantastically.
I am gathering this was Framus' offering for a full-bodied electrified jazz/blues guitar, built in the same vain as a contemporary ES-125, etc. This model however has a beautiful cutaway, which is uncommon for the period and means that access to the upper frets is far easier.
Features a very rare and factory-fitted Framus pickup system, designed to avoid heavy routing or tampering with an existing acoustic guitar and is mounted via the side of the neck. The pickup has a beautiful character and is rather Dearmond-like (think Lightnin' Hopkins, et al) with accompanying volume/tone controls for dialling in the sound. Sounds great played clean and also drives nicely for an authentic 60s blues tone.
Fat, 50s Gibson style neck profile, wonderfully playable up the board with a comfortable low action (and it's currently strung with 11s for a proper jazz tone).
All original, save for I believe one of the tone knobs, and the pickguard side bracket appears to have been repositioned (pictured).
The full body depth makes for a really big sound, meaning the guitar really sings when unplugged, too.
In excellent condition for a guitar that's now 60+ years old, well-survived and very well looked after. The factory Red Burst finish retains a nice lustre, with natural age-related lacquer checking and tarnishing to metal parts.
The fretboard is a beautiful dark rosewood/equivalent German domestic dark wood, with ornate block inlays. Frets are in good condition with life left in them and are playing well.
No case, but it will be well-packed for transit.
A beautiful deep-bodied German electric guitar from the peak of Framus' manufacturing prowess.
