A beautiful Burns Sonic Bass, made in England circa 1962.
Burns' original iteration of this bass, somewhat of a cult classic among British-made guitar collectors and the go-to for many a beat / blues band in England during the 60s.
A well-used but pretty much all original example free of breaks or issues. One of the tuners has previously replaced with a period correct tuner which is also a Van Ghent (albeit, with a metal button rather than a plastic one).
Specs:
Red finish
Short scale length
2x original Burns Tri-Sonic bass pickups
Original lacquered maple/lightwood fingerboard with dot inlays
Original hardware and electronics, save for 1x replaced tuner
Condition:
In well-used but original condition. Plenty of checking, wear and marks to the finish, though no breaks. Playing nicely, frets have some wear but life left in them. Freshly restrung with correct gauge strings and electronics cleaned. Minor breaks to the pickguard as pictured (inconsequential to playability). Loom appears to be all original, with no touch ups or replaced parts. Great tone to be had from the 2x original Burns Tri-Sonic bass pickups, quite the unique sound. If I'm not mistaken, Nick O'Malley used a similar model on the entirety of Arctic Monkeys' Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino, which provides a good example of this bass' capabilities.
Modifications/repairs:
Replaced tuner (Van Ghent period equivalent with metal button), minor repair to pickguard where it has cracked near screw area. Non-original nut.
Accessories:
None.
