For sale is somewhat of a hidden gem of the vintage guitar world, a 1960s Kay model K100 or 'Vanguard' electric guitar.

These were budget models produced for American catalogues during the 1960s, representing something of a 'student'/beginner model. I believe it was meant to compete with contemporary single pickup models such as the Les Paul Junior, etc.

Owing to its manufacture date/visuals, I believe the fretboard is Brazilian Rosewood (as was the case with pretty much all Kay/Harmony guitars of the period).

It features a lone Kay 'Pancake' pickup, which is very powerful and sounds a lot better than it should, being a student model. Instant 50s blues /Jack White tone on command - breaks up very nicely.

No breaks or significant repairs. The neck is a very comfortable 'V' profile which Kay used on some guitars in this period. The pickguard features a historic hole, covered by the previous owner with a sticker. The knobs are modern repros and the nut has been replaced.

Plays nicely with a comfortable action and plays well up the board. The bridge is the original tiny rosewood bridge used on some Kay models - this one is complete, holds and plays fine and can be adjusted for height. They're not the best bridges in the world and often swapped out - though this guitar retains it.

There are plenty of dings, marks and signs of playing wear which contribute to an authentic vintage feel. The headstock 'badge' has been lost to time, though repros/replacements can be found online.

A fantastic USA-made 60s electric guitar with plenty of utility and a really cool look to match.
