A beautiful and supe rare Hofner model 173 model dating from the mid-1960s, factory-finished in Gold Paisley wrap.
Save for the volume knob and a newer nut, this one is all original - and importantly - all working as it should. Many Hofners of this age suffer from electronic issues, deteriorated pickups and a plethora of other issues, though this one suffer from none of the above and is ready to play.
Some finish flaking and loosening to the tolex wrap, though this is non-structural and I've left it as-is, as it doesn't affect anything. Further, it's contributes to its authentic vintage patina - a striking guitar, indeed.
Specs:
- Country of origin: Germany
- Year of origin: mid-60s
- Finish: Gold Paisley
- Neck: Maple with rosewood fingerboard
- Pickups: 3x factory Hofner 'Diamond' pickups
Condition:
In good condition for its age, with most cosmetic marks being age-related. There is tarnishing to some of the metal parts and the tolex wrap has started to (inconsequentially) lift to some edges, though as above I've left this as-is. Frets in decent condition with life left in them, playing nicely for a vintage Hofner solidbody, with some really nice tones to be had from the various pickup switching options.
Modifications/repairs:
Newer nut, the master volume knob (the first one) was non-original, though I've replaced it with a contemporary Hofner knob (one that is albeit, labelled 'tone').
Accessories:
Non-original generic hard case.
