For sale is a lovely Swedish-made 60s Levin LM-26 'Goliath' model acoustic guitar.
A fantastic vintage acoustic of excellent build quality, this was Levin's equivalent of a contemporary J45, featuring a nitro Sunburst finish over a solid spruce top, with lightly flamed maple back and sides.
Nice, dark rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays and bound neck.
The serial number present to the of the top at headstock, while present though obscured somewhat by lacquer checking, appears to start '40XXXX' which puts production at circa 1960.
This one was fitted with a contemporary Dearmond model RHC-B pickup very early in its life, with the tone 'wheel'/pot being replaced with a tone/volume (in that order) to the body. Both pots are of equal vintage and are English-made Morganites (who supplied pots to Vox guitars at the time) and the knobs also appear to be Vox parts, so I'm assuming this work was done in the very early 60s. There is a solid repair to this area (pictured).
Action sits at an acceptable 2.75mm for the age and the neck is straight thanks to the functioning truss rod.
Appears to largely original, including the truss rod cover, screws, tuners, pickguard and bridge, though the nut and saddle are replacements.
Sounds beautiful and has a really nice 60s blues sound thanks to the vintage Dearmond pickup, which has beautiful clean tones but can be driven very effectively for an Elmore James / Lightnin' Hopkins sound.
In good condition for its age very bumps, marks and plenty of lacquer checking, though apart from the abovementioned crack repair, is otherwise free of breaks.
A really cool and unique, playable vintage guitar by underrated Swedish builders - Levin.
