A very rare Silvertone model 1452 (U1) dating from 1959. 

These models were built by Danelectro for Silvertone and were identical to their 'U1' model.

The pot codes are obscured by the original solder - however I'm putting this one squarely at 1959 owing to it featuring the 'new' larger body (not the early 50s 'peanut' shape), 'dolphin' headstock, single cutaway and the positioning of the input jack to the side (I think this was moved to the 'top' of the body by 1960/61). 

Electronically, it is all original including the caps, pots, switch and the famed single 'Lipstick' pickup. The finish while a correct factory colour, is actually a very convincing and well done refinish - in the correct nitro Copper metallic, with even the correct 'v' masking to the back of the neck.

The body 'binding' tape is repro, but again appears rather convincing. It still retains the original, very rudimental bridge (these are often swapped out for something more practical). The knobs are non-original though appropriate looking repro 'cupcake' knobs and the Silvertone badge is also a repro cast from an original logo. 

It has evidently had Grovers in the past, though is now fitted with a set of period 50s Waverly 6-in-line tuners for a more correct look (pictured).

One portion of the original (Braz rosewood) fingerboard has been repaired, near invisibly (pictured). Whoever worked on this guitar originally really took their time.

Frets have been levelled, crowned and polished and the neck is straight thanks to the original steel reinforcement rod (while not featuring an adjustable rod, this was some great foresight by Danelectro - I've never seen one bowed out of shape). 

A surprisingly versatile one pickup guitar - the switch offers a tone cut, while one position disengages the tone control entirely. Very innovative, for the period. 

So, a great 'player grade' 50s classic, if you like - a really charming guitar with a great sound.
