Harmony Stratotone ‘Mercury’ H47 model electric guitar, made in 1958 (Chicago, USA).
Factory stamped F58, which was the first year of this model’s particular specs, body shape and pickup configuration!
A fantastic vintage USA-made electric guitar, which in my opinion is up their with any other of its 50s contemporaries.
One of Harmony's top range electric guitars, reflected by some fantastic specs. It has a lone Dearmond pickup which were fitted as standard on these models, wired into an interesting tone circuit (treble cut, bass cut, with the final notch engaging the tone knob). I find these to be somewhat close to a P90 - they are single coil in design though incredibly warm. These are functionally the same pickups that also went in the Meteor, H78, etc.
These models have a closed hollow body and as such are rather lightweight. It features a beautiful bound, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with large pearl inlays.
Its finish is the factory original Sunburst, which has the redder hue nicely present and is characteristic of the period.
These models were originally introduced in 1954, as was the Stratocaster, and at various points has been Harmony's attempt to compete with Fender for a serious, professional-worthy electric guitar offering. I find their names interesting - both reflecting the Space Race permeating culture during the period. You further see this in Harmony's other guitar names - the Jupiter, Meteor, Rocket, etc.
Nearly all original, save for a period correct Harmony replacement, sourced from the USA. The wiring has been freshly serviced with minor touch-ups and is working exactly as it should.
Clean and well looked after condition, having survived well for an electric guitar from the 50s. Some natural checking to the original, nitro finish and minor tarnishing to hardware, which all functions as it should. It has the typical minor cracks to the jack area, though this is wholly stable and present on the majority of these guitars that I've seen. No case, but it will be very well packed for shipping.
A classic 50s American electric guitar with some fantastic tones to be had from the Dearmond pickup.
