A really interesting 1950s German parlour guitar, made in the style of a 19th century guitar by Mittenwald.

As per the label, this was made by builders in Mittenwald and concurrent with the label, sold by the retailer E. Wittstadt in Würzburg.

While a mid-20th century guitar, they were made in the style of a 19th century German parlour guitar - features to this effect include a small parlour body, slotted headstock, 'zero' fret and a really interesting ornate fretboard which extends to the guitar body.

A lovely detail too are the highly-flamed back and sides, much in the style of a beautiful 19th century violin - again a clear nod to Germany's 19th century instrument building tradition.

Well-used, though free of any splits, breaks or anything untoward. The action is decent - these were designed to be nylon/gut-strung (not steel-strung) with wooden bridge pins as with an antique classical. The bridge is either ebony or ebonised darkwood (potentially very dark German forest woods) and itself is also in the style of a 19th century parlour guitar.

It further appears to be all original, with no apparent replaced parts, though plenty of natural wear to the guitar throughout.

Plays nicely with a comfortable traditional classical/antique playing action and the bridge is solid without signs of adverse lift. Frets decently, with original brass frets.

A unique and handsome 20th century German-made classical guitar with antique parlour stylings.
